Jan. 17, 2020 (Saskatoon, CANADA) – Vendasta is proud to be listed among ‘Canada’s Top Employers for Young People’, a top 100 list of the nation’s best workplaces for people starting their careers.

The news comes as the cloud-based technology platform continues to pursue an ambitious hiring plan expected to grow the number of ‘Vendastians’ from 355 today to 500 by the end of 2020, eventually reaching 650 by 2022.

“This is a great testament to the work we’ve done to have a welcoming and fulfilling environment for our team members,” said VP of People Operations Jean Parchewsky. “People come to work with us because they want to work on engaging and challenging problems alongside other smart and fun people. They also want to build a career in a fast growing environment that will challenge them, and that is what we have built for them here. We spend so much time working in our lives and there is no reason why it can’t be fun and rewarding from the first job until retirement.”

Vendasta’s average employee age is 31. About 37 percent of team members work in research and development, 23 percent are in sales, 17 percent work in customer fulfillment, 11 percent are marketers, seven percent are in customer support, and the remaining five percent work in operations.

“Our unofficial motto in People Operations is ‘one company, many careers’,” said Parchewsky. “People want to be able to do what they are passionate about, and as they learn and their passions change, they want new opportunities so that they can continue to grow. We have created a growth culture where this opportunity is available.”

Vendasta offers paid internships, co-op opportunities, ongoing employee training, subsidies for professional accreditation, and a robust orientation program at its own Vendasta University. Additional work ‘perks’ include flexible work hours and personal leave, health benefits for new employees, paid time off, telecommuting, transit subsidies, local discounts, in-house food services, and frequent social events. Recently, Vendasta launched its first digital online learning management system, which provides team members with the skills they need to succeed at work.

“The best employers are changing the way they offer key benefits like training so that they are more ‘on-demand’ and let employees learn at their own speed,” says Stephanie Leung, Assistant Editor at Mediacorp, Inc., which compiles the list. “Some even offer apps that allow employees to see where they stand with various workplace benefits and annual vacation allowance.”

The full list of companies is being recognized by the Mediacorp editorial team at a luncheon reception in Toronto today. Vendasta is one of three Saskatoon companies and six Saskatchewan-based on the top 100 list.

There are currently more than two dozen openings at the company. Read Vendasta’s Top Employer profile here.

About Canada’s Top Employers for Young People

Now in its 18th year, Canada’s Top Employers for Young People is an editorial competition that recognizes employers offering the nation’s best workplaces and programs for young people starting their careers. Winners of the competition are chosen by the editorial team at the Canada’s Top Employers project on the basis of the programs and initiatives they offer to attract and retain younger workers. These include benefits such as tuition assistance and co-op or work-study programs. The editors also examine each employer’s mentorship and training programs, including benefits such as bonuses paid on completing trades or professional designations. The editors also review each employer’s career management program, looking for initiatives that help younger workers advance faster in the organization.

Freemium versions of key digital martech products drive sales and retention

Nov. 4, 2019 (Saskatoon, CANADA) – Vendasta partners can now unlock a freemium suite of foundational martech products to help drive their local business clients’ success.

The newly launched Express Products cover the most important digital presence management solutions for small and medium businesses, such as reputation management, advertising, social media, and listings – the key tools a local business needs to succeed and gain customers. The new freemium digital products are available for activation individually and as part of a recommended package in the Vendasta Marketplace at low to no cost to partners.

Once activated, the products appear in a partner client’s Business Center, which allows the business to test drive the effectiveness of key solutions on their own terms before they commit to a purchase. The launch follows a successful pilot program undertaken by Vendasta this fall.

“As consumers we expect to try things before we buy, and we are now witnessing the consumerization of B2B software,” said Vendasta’s Chief Strategy Officer Jacqueline Cook. “In fact, three out of four B2B buyers want to self-educate to learn about products.”

“Based on the feedback we heard from our partners over the years, we’ve developed this go-to-market strategy to allow our partners to demonstrate value and to see who’s interested in taking the next step with digital.”

Vendasta recently tested the Express Products with select partners. Those who participated saw an average of more than 12 percent of their business clients upgrade to paid products in a few short weeks.

“This is all about equipping our partners with better tools to help their small business clients succeed with digital. By gaining value through a lightweight foundational suite of solutions, their clients can try before they commit to anything in a self-service way,” said Cook.

A Vendasta study found that partners who sold two products to their local business clients increased their retention to 30 percent after two years. Three products increased retention to nearly 50 percent, and four solutions grew retention by 80 percent.

Sign up for the Vendasta platform for free to unlock the Express Suite of product-led growth products and explore its other solutions.

October 3, 2019 (Saskatoon, CANADA) – Vendasta will remain in Saskatoon’s downtown following advisement from Colliers International to secure a long-term lease of 38,500 square feet at Saskatoon Square. The rapidly expanding software company will occupy four floors of the 17-storey building on the northeast corner of 22nd Street East and 4th Avenue North. Occupancy is scheduled in stages beginning October 2019 and ending before October 2021.

“We could not be more pleased than to be part of the Vendasta story,” said Lisa Oberding, Associate Vice President with Colliers International and lead of the transaction process with colleague Andrew Welham. “Serving the needs of Vendasta while working with the real estate community has been a very engaging process, and we are happy to see success achieved on all fronts. Our analysis and market data were instrumental throughout the process. We want to sincerely congratulate Vendasta while also thanking the City for its efforts to retain a world-class organization.”

New Space Will Accommodate Expanding Team

ColliersLogo

Vendasta raised $40 million in growth funding in late July, and plans to grow to 650 people in the next three years. More than 80 of its 325 current team members will move from its present downtown headquarters to Saskatoon Square this fall, with the remaining employees migrating as renovations are complete. The building is expected to be renamed Vendasta Square once all teams are moved in, slated for Fall 2021.

Currently, the company is situated in the historic Avenue Building at 3rd Avenue South and 21st Street East, within view of its new headquarters.

“We’re definitely pleased with the final outcome,” said Richard Cheung, CFO of Vendasta. “Not only does this building meet our current needs, but it provides us with the flexibility to grow into additional floors as the business continues to scale.”

“The City of Saskatoon’s vision for downtown helped make our decision truly feel like the right one, and the Colliers team delivered the product we need to be successful. This sets us up to continue our trajectory as one a Canada’s fastest growing companies, while remaining in Saskatoon,” he said.

“Vendasta’s decision to stay and grow in the downtown is a great one for our city,” said Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark. “As our tech community continues to explode, we have tremendous potential to create a tech hub in the downtown, complemented by great restaurants, new residential towers, and other attractions. This will make the downtown strong into the future.”

Colliers Forecasts High Rate of Office Vacancies

The Saskatoon office market has been in a state of flux for some time and is predicted to stay that way for years to come, according to market research reports released by Colliers. Several properties, including a portion of the River Landing project, Saskatoon Square, Princeton Tower, and River Quarry have raised the vacancy in Saskatoon to 12.4% overall and 13.1% in the Central Business District (CBD). Tenant relocation and repositioning, along with property redevelopment, is expected to be the norm into the foreseeable future.

“The move by Vendasta to remain in Saskatoon’s CBD speaks volumes to the confidence it has in its product, its people, and the stakeholders it interacts with in the city,” said Oberding.

“We’re very humbled to be named among other incredible MSPs and are looking forward to the conversations tonight and into the future,” said Leith.

Sept. 4, 2019 (Saskatoon, CANADA) – Vendasta is proud to be named among the CIX Top 10 Growth companies.

The Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX) delivered its ‘Top 20 Early’ and ‘Top 10 Growth’ lists on BNN Bloomberg Wednesday morning. Companies are chosen by a selection committee of technology industry experts and investors from across Canada.

This is the second consecutive year Vendasta has been honored by CIX, having been named among the CIX Top 20 in 2018. It’s the first year that the Canadian Innovation Exchange has curated two programs: the CIX Top 20 Early, for companies with net revenue less than $5 million CAD or who have raised less than $10 million, and the CIX Top 10 Growth program for late stage companies.

“The CIX brings together some of the most passionate and driven people in Canadian technology and it is an honor for Vendasta to be recognized,” said Vendasta CEO Brendan King. “Very few Canadian technology companies are reaching the ‘scaling’ stage, and it’s fantastic to see CIX recognizing companies that are reaching this milestone.”

The list of companies honored in the CIX Top 10 Growth program are:

– AlayaCare, Montreal
– ApplyBoard, Kitchener
– Bold Commerce, Winnipeg
– Flybits, Toronto
– League, Toronto
– Platterz Inc, Toronto
– Q4 Inc., Toronto
– Sensibill, Toronto
– TouchBistro, Toronto
– Vendasta, Saskatoon

See both lists here.

CIX Canadian Innovation Exchange said 433 profiles were submitted for consideration from across Canada. Companies were chosen based on a number of key factors, including product/service offering, depth of management, market opportunity, and business model.

“Expanding to include a dedicated Growth-stage category allows us to identify and showcase more great Canadian companies and attract new stages of investors and sources of capital to CIX,” said Lauren Linton, Executive Director of CIX. “This year’s cohort of early and growth-stage companies is very impressive and we look forward to showcasing them at CIX.”

Executives of each company will present to more than 700 investors and peers in the North American technology ecosystem at CIX 2019 from Oct. 16-17. Alongside the showcases will be dynamic keynotes and sessions led by top tech business leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs.

About the Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX):

CIX is an annual curation program and two-day conference which showcases Canada’s most promising early stage and scaling startups. In its 12th year, invited delegates are North American VCs, corporates, private equity investors and advisors. July 17, 2019 (Saskatoon, CANADA) – Vendasta, a cloud commerce platform for companies that provide digital solutions to small and medium businesses (SMBs), has raised $40 million in growth funding, $25M of which was led by the Canadian Business Growth Fund (CBGF) in addition to an earlier round in May of $15M led by Comporium, Inc and Saskworks Venture Fund Inc. with participation from existing investors Vanedge Capital LP and BDC Capital IT Venture Fund. With these investments, the technology company plans to expand its Saskatoon-based team from 285 people to 650 in the next three years.

It marks the single largest information and communication technology investment in the prairies since the Canadian Venture Capital Private Equity Association (CVCA) started collecting data in 2013.

The funds will be used to enhance the Vendasta Platform, including its owned and operated product suite and robust Marketplace of digital solutions. The company will accelerate its expansion into new customer channels such as banks, telcos, insurance companies and other enterprise organizations looking for a scalable technology solution to serve their SMB customers.

“SMBs worldwide are purchasing and relying on cloud-based software more than ever before. It’s projected that SMB spend on software as a service (SaaS) solutions will represent a $76 billion market opportunity in the US alone by 2020. They’re turning to trusted local experts to provide that software, and we are uniquely positioned to empower those experts with our cloud commerce platform,” said Vendasta CEO Brendan King.

An SMB who wants to move portions of their business online has to choose from more than 71,000 SaaS solutions to manage marketing, productivity, protection, operations, connectivity, and other business needs. The SMB often turns to familiar local experts, like telcos, marketing agencies, banks, media companies, and more to help manage their digital needs. The Vendasta Platform helps the trusted experts bring everything together in a cohesive experience for the SMBs they serve.

“At the end of the day, we’re passionate about driving local economies and helping small businesses succeed,” says King.

“The team is agile, smart, fun and they aren’t afraid of hard work. I’ve watched the company build, adapt, and over-deliver product and customer service, showing its true prairie roots of accountability. They have built a solid foundation, and they are just getting going,” said Amy Rae, Principal at Vanedge Capital.

“We are excited to partner with Brendan and his team, who are building a world class company and an excellent culture. In doing so, Vendasta is attracting talented technology professionals from around the world to Saskatoon as they grow and scale,” said George Rossolatos, CEO at CBGF.

According to the CVCA’s 2018 VC & PE Canadian Market Overview, $3.7 billion was invested in Canadian companies last year, of which eight deals in Saskatchewan made up $16 million of the total national investment (compared to $100 million in Alberta and $29 million in Manitoba). In the first quarter of 2019, $1 billion worth of investments were made in Canada, including three Saskatchewan deals totaling $19 million.

The conference is also exploring the topic of cloud brokerages – becoming the single source for all a client’s digital needs.

SMBs are turning to digital solutions to help manage their business more than ever before, and 66% would prefer to work with a trusted cloud expert. Further, a 2016 Accel Partners/Google report predicts SMB spending on SaaS solutions will significantly outpace enterprise spending on SaaS by 2020.

“Millions of companies in marketing, publishing, broadcasting, directories, MSPs, ISPs, finance, insurance, telecos, and more stand to benefit from this shift,” said Vendasta CEO Brendan King. “This conference is the starting line for channel partners who are positioned to grow and meet this increasing demand.”

April 25, 2019 (Saskatoon, CANADA) – Vendasta is pleased to welcome MyCorporation to its robust Marketplace. The move is part of the marketing and sales platform’s evolution to becoming mission control and the single source for local business needs.

Vendasta’s channel partners can now help their U.S.-based small and medium business (SMB) clients form a limited liability company (LLC), providing security and adding further credibility to the local business and its digital solutions provider.

Businesses are required to renew their certificate annually through their Channel Partner expert, increasing retention and providing yet another source of recurring revenue.

Forming an LLC provides certain tax protections, and helps safeguard a business owner’s personal assets.

“MyCorporation could not be more pleased to work with Vendasta’s channel partners, and to support their offerings to business owners and entrepreneurs looking to protect assets, save taxes, and add legitimacy to their businesses,” said Deborah Sweeney, CEO of MyCorporation.

“This partnership allows SMBs to keep their businesses protected through our trusted partners,” said Ed O’Keefe, GM/EVP of the Vendasta Marketplace. “This is another way Vendasta is able to provide our cloud broker partners new growth solutions for both themselves and their small and medium business clients.”

MyCorporation is among a series of best-in-class business solutions recently added to the expanding Vendasta Marketplace, such as G Suite and the soon-to-be added Office 365. The software platform is adding human resources and accounting software in 2019.

Feb. 7, 2019 (Saskatoon, CANADA) – Vendasta is celebrating efforts to help create more diverse and inclusive work environments, as it receives the Saskatoon Open Door Society (SODS)’s Employer Partner of the Year award.

The honour was announced as part of the SODS Annual Diversity Awards Gala Thursday night at the Delta Bessborough Hotel. The gala dinner celebrates the achievements of companies and individuals that have shown exceptional leadership in workplace diversity and an inclusive attitude toward immigrants.

The Employer Partner of the Year award is given to a Saskatoon business that successfully utilized SODS services to attract employees and engage with the newcomer community. Vendasta participates in SODS’ WeConnect Job Fairs, and is active with the organization’s Skills 4 Work program, assisting with mock interviews and workplace tours.

Viola Lu discovered Vendasta through the Skills 4 Work program. She immigrated from Shanghai, China last summer.

“Vendasta was helping with the mock interviews, and gave a really impressive and informative speech that attracted me to know more about Vendasta,” said Lu. “It’s why I’m working here, and I’m really proud to be a Vendastian.”

“An employee’s willingness to work with others and adapt to uncertainty and change are crucial in our fast-paced tech world,” said Vendasta People Operations Specialist Brooke Trippel. “Newcomers embody these traits in their life-changing decision to move into a new environment and culture. This has led Vendasta to have great success in hiring newcomers.”

About 13 percent of the company’s workforce is new to Canada, from places like the United States, China, Brazil, Ireland, and Australia. Four recent hires connected with Vendasta through SODS programming.

“Diversity is increasingly important in today’s workplace, as it is in our communities,” said SODS Executive Director Ali Abukar. “Vendasta recognizes this through their enthusiastic collaboration with us to welcome, hire and support newcomers to Canada. Vendasta’s continued involvement over the past three years in our job-readiness classes – for instance, by participating in mock interviews – has allowed our clients to build their confidence and enabled them to land a job. It’s a win-win for newcomers and for Saskatoon.”

Vendasta sends their heartfelt congratulations to the other businesses honoured at the awards ceremony. This is the second consecutive year Vendasta has received the Employer Partner of the Year Award.

SASKATOON, SK (June 27, 2018) – Vendasta is pleased to be named to the Branham300 – a definitive list of the fastest growing information and communication technology (ICT) companies in Canada. The Saskatoon-based software group secured the 130th spot in the list’s slice of Top 250 Tech Companies countrywide, along with three other deserving Saskatchewan businesses.

“The Branham300 is based on revenue growth and we are please to have made the list again. As we grow to our goal of $100 million in revenue, maintaining a high growth rate is challenging,” Vendasta CEO Brendan King said. “However, our growth rate is actually increasing as we become the software platform of choice for companies providing marketing, sales, and other digital solutions to local businesses. Demand internationally is rising dramatically, and Canadian tech is being seen as desirable and competitive. I am proud of the world class platform our team is building right here in Saskatoon.”

Vendasta secured its coveted spot on the 2018 Branham300 list of public and private technology companies by achieving 45 percent revenue growth from 2016 to 2017. The Branham Group reports that revenue generated by the Top 250 tech companies in Canada has grown every year since 2009. In fiscal 2017, Canada’s Top 250 achieved growth of 1.14 percent, compared to 9.6 percent the previous year.

“I want to emphasize that this slowdown in growth is not caused by weakness in either the ICT sector or the overall economy. It’s quite the opposite,” said Wayne Gubranson, CEO of Branham Group. “We saw reduced growth because Canadian companies are so attractive that a number of large firms were purchased by Canadian or foreign buyers and were therefore no longer eligible for our ranking,”

This is the third time Vendasta has been recognized on the Branham300, having applied and been ranked in the Top Canadian ICT Companies in 2016 and among the Top 25 Canadian IT Up and Comers in 2009.

Find the full Branham300 list here.

About Branham 300
The Branham300 is the best-known and most widely referenced listing of Canada’s top ICT companies, ranked by revenue. The listing also tracks the top ICT multinationals operating in Canada, as well as ‘Up and Coming’ firms, which are young Canadian companies Branham Group believes will be big hits soon. Branham Group’s ranking is unique in Canada because it tracks both publicly held and privately owned companies. It is the only comprehensive list to do so.

Banff, Alberta, Canada (April 4, 2018) – Vendasta (www.vendasta.com) today announces a significant update to one of its cornerstone tools – the Executive Report. Attendees of VendastaCon 2018 in Banff, Canada received an early glimpse of its new functionalities during the destination conference in the heart of the Rocky Mountains.

Vendasta’s Executive Report gives local business owners a weekly rollup of everything important that happened across their digital marketing channels. This includes new customer reviews, social media mentions, and changes to their business listings. The report is automatically populated and ‘white labelled’, allowing Vendasta partners to customize it under their brand.

“This is a business’s story updated week-to-week. It’s the essential news for a business owner who doesn’t have the time to read multiple reports,” Vendasta CEO Brendan King said. “It also gives our partners the opportunity to demonstrate that their products and services are effective.”

With this update, Vendasta’s Executive Report now includes data about a business’ advertising, listings, reputation, SEO, social media, and website. The report shows the progression of a business’ digital marketing with easy-to-read graphs and figures, helping Vendasta-partnered marketing agencies and media companies show proof of performance to their local business clients. Every week, the Vendasta Platform automatically generates and sends this report to local businesses, saving Vendasta partners the time of compiling the data from multiple sources.

The new Executive Report is available to beta partners now and will be released to all partners Apr. 11.
